ABOUT ME
MY STORY
Katie’s experience includes working with Channel 4, Spotify, Acast, Absolute Radio, Capital, Stak, JaackMaate, Reprezent Radio and more.
With a lifelong passion for sound, Katie Baxter first began her journey in music and audio production as a student in 2016.
After falling in love with Nottingham’s music scene and joining University Radio Nottingham (URN), Katie discovered her talent for DJing and began to develop her skills in presenting, production and music curation, as URN’s Playlist Editor and Head of Station.
Determined to find her place in the entertainment space, she bagged Channel 4’s highly competitive Music Internship in 2017. Later that year, she began a year long Production Internship with Capital, spending her evenings after studying immersed in the studio, working on the popular East Midlands drive-time show.
These opportunities helped her harness her passion and develop her skills in the audio industry, paving the way for her to begin a hugely successful career when she graduated in 2019.
During her final term at the University of Nottingham, she was offered the opportunity to join Stak, a leading podcast production company, as a producer.
Here she began producing and sound designing JaackMaate’s Happy Hour, which grew to become one of the UK’s most successful comedy entertainment podcasts during her time working on the show. She also became the producer of Eureka!, hosted by BBC 5 Live’s Rick Edwards, skilfully pairing fascinating research with cutting edge sound design. Eureka! was nominated for Best Entertainment Podcast the British Podcast Awards 2023.
Katie's innovative spirit drove her to co-create and co-host UTOPIA Talks with BBC Radio 1’s Jaguar, an innovative, ground breaking podcast at the forefront of dance music. It explores the good and the bad of life as a DJ and tackles challenging topics including addiction, mental health and racism. Featuring esteemed guests like Annie Mac, Katy B and The Blessed Madonna, the show has garnered attention from notable publications including The Guardian and Crack Magazine, and in 2021 it was nominated for Best Music Podcast in the PodBible Awards.
Last year, Katie wrote, researched, produced and sound designed a two part audio documentary called ‘Under the Lights’, examining dance music’s deep rooted problem with sexism and gender disparity, which received widespread acclaim.
In 2019, she became a Senior Podcast Producer and Sound Designer at just 22 years of age, due to her already in-depth understanding of the podcasting industry and her ability to create content of the highest quality.
Katie’s creative, award-winning work has topped podcast charts, appeared in major news outlets and reached millions of listeners.
She has also created premium sponsored audio content for global brands including Apple, Samsung and McDonald’s.
Meanwhile, her DJ sets have ignited festivals and clubs across the UK (and beyond)!
Katie Baxter’s high energy, contagious sets began in the underground queer scene. Since then, they have taken her to some amazing places including Glastonbury, Pikes (Ibiza), Parklife Festival (Manchester) and Mighty Hoopla (London) to name a few.
Away from the dance floor, Katie’s Saturday night residency on Reprezent Radio shows off her expansive music knowledge and cements her reputation as a highly skilled selector, spanning multiple genres. Since becoming a resident, Katie has hosted a range of incredible guest mixes from some of the UK’s most exciting new talent, including Queer House Party, Azzecca, SONNIKKU, Meg Ward and Sam Girling.
Katie has also collaborated and DJed for brands including lululemon and Multiverse.
Whether she’s spinning tracks in a dark basement in East London, or on the main stage at a festival, Katie’s proved her capability behind the decks can ignite any dance floor and 2024 looks set to be her biggest year in music yet.
Let’s see what comes next…
Since 2016, Katie has been making noise with some of the UK’s biggest creators and brands.
